Camp Kamassa is a fully accessible camp in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, designed for children and adults with chronic illnesses, disabilities and other special needs. In this video, Camp Kamassa shares what makes the campus unique and how its endowment at CFM helps support the camp’s long-term future.
What if camp was designed so everyone could fully experience it?
That vision is what drives Camp Kamassa, a one-of-a-kind camp in Crystal Springs, Mississippi, being intentionally built to serve children and adults living with illnesses, disabilities, and other life challenges. Set across 426 acres, Camp Kamassa is creating a space where belonging, connection, and adventure are built into every detail.
While the camp includes many of the experiences people traditionally associate with summer camp — swimming, canoeing, arts and crafts, campfires, and outdoor recreation — every aspect of the campus has been thoughtfully planned to accommodate guests with a wide range of medical needs and physical abilities. Flat paved pathways, accessible buildings, adaptive activities, and barrier-free spaces help ensure every camper has the opportunity to fully participate and feel included.
Camp Kamassa partners with organizations throughout the year to provide programming for individuals living with conditions including autism, cancer, Down syndrome, spina bifida, muscular dystrophy, visual and hearing impairments, sickle cell disease, and many others.
Construction is already well underway, with major portions of the campus completed, including cabins, recreational facilities, the lake, pool, chapel, cafeteria, infirmary, and activity spaces. Additional features — including an adaptive rock wall, archery range, campfire and stargazing areas, and staff housing — continue to bring the vision to life.
At its heart, Camp Kamassa is about more than buildings or programming. It’s about creating a place where children and adults who are often underserved can experience joy, independence, friendship, and community in an environment designed with them in mind from the very beginning.
