Nonprofit Capacity Building

Helping nonprofits strengthen the work behind the mission.

Strong nonprofits help build stronger communities. CFM invests in capacity building to help organizations develop the tools, knowledge, and support they need to sustain their work over time.

As nonprofits face growing needs, limited resources, and increased competition for funding, access to training and professional support is more important than ever. CFM helps connect nonprofits in central and southwest Mississippi with practical resources that strengthen leadership, improve operations, and support long-term planning.

This work may include leadership development, fundraising support, coaching, technical assistance, online tools, training opportunities, and nonprofit capacity building mini-grants.

Capacity Building Grants

Nonprofit Capacity Building Mini-Grants help 501(c)(3) nonprofits in CFM’s service area access training, professional development and organizational support.

Support may include workshops, CFM-hosted events, assistance from CFM staff or guidance from a vetted nonprofit consultant. Areas of support may include board development, strategic planning, fundraising, grant writing, evaluation, program development and more.

Capacity Building Spotlight

WATCH: BRIARWOOD ARTS CENTER

Hear how Briarwood Arts Center has worked alongside the Community Foundation for Mississippi from the very beginning.

Briarwood Arts Center (BAC) is creating a welcoming space for creativity, learning, and community connection in Northeast Jackson. From music production and songwriting to youth mentorship, yoga, financial literacy, workforce development, and health-related workshops, BAC is building programs around what the community wants and needs.

As the organization has grown, CFM has helped provide more than funding. Through panels, grant review opportunities, technical guidance, and connections to additional resources, CFM has served as a supportive partner in BAC’s development.

That support has helped strengthen both the organization and its long-term vision. That kind of capacity building helps organizations like Briarwood move from a meaningful idea to a sustainable community resource. As BAC continues to grow, its goal is not only to serve Northeast Jackson, but to show other communities what is possible when people come together around a shared vision.

“I knew that as we were continuing to grow, and as I was continuing to grow in this arts and nonprofit administration space, that CFM was going to be that mentor sort of organization that would help guide me through my growth.”
