Agency Fund
An agency fund gives nonprofit organizations a way to set aside and manage long-term assets at the Community Foundation for Mississippi.
An agency fund is established by a nonprofit to benefit its own work. Your organization contributes funds to CFM, where they are invested and managed, with grants distributed back to your organization as needed.
Nonprofits across Mississippi—from local organizations like Jackson Friends of the Library and Operation Shoestring to statewide institutions like the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra and the Mississippi Arts Commission—use agency funds to help manage resources over time.
Whether you’re building reserves or planning for the future, an agency fund provides a structured place for those mission-critical dollars, supported by low-cost investment options, third-party oversight, and guidance from the Foundation’s team.
How An Agency Fund Works
Your organization sets up a fund at CFM (it can be endowed or not endowed)
You contribute assets to the fund
You choose how those assets are invested
CFM manages the fund and processes grants back to your organization
Authorized staff can view fund activity anytime through an online portal
“Board members, leaders, and volunteers of these incredible causes are best deployed advancing the mission and the visibility, crafting and creating fundraising strategies, not managing asset allocation. That is what CFM is doing. We help these nonprofits invest better so they can spend their time out in the community and attending to important programming.”
— Jay Philpott, Vice President of Growth and Development, Community Foundation for Mississippi

Jackson Free Clinic
FUND SPOTLIGHT
The Jackson Free Clinic provides essential care to uninsured patients in the Jackson area, offering services such as primary care, dentistry, mental health, women’s health, and pharmacy support. The clinic is staffed entirely by volunteer medical and healthcare students from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
Through its endowment at the Community Foundation for Mississippi, the clinic has a stable source of support to sustain and expand its work. What began as a small reserve has grown over time, helping the clinic remain open, serve more than 1,000 patients each year, and expand services like gynecology and weekend care.
The fund also connects the clinic to additional resources and funding opportunities, allowing it to respond to urgent needs and continue serving the community.
“You could put [your money] with any other financial investment in the country, but then you don’t have access to other nonprofits in the area. You don’t have that sort of sage advice from people who do nothing but help manage the finances of nonprofits.”
- Dion Kevin,
former CFO and volunteer, Jackson Free Clinic
