Friends of the Planetarium Fund

The Friends of the Planetarium Fund supports the renovation, enhancement and continued development of the Russell C. Davis Planetarium, helping bring new technology and experiences to a longtime Jackson institution.

For nearly four decades, the Russell C. Davis Planetarium has introduced visitors from Jackson and beyond to science, space and discovery. Its history includes a collaboration with NASA in the 1980s to develop a camera used to record a space documentary that later received Best Documentary honors at the New York Film Festival.

While the planetarium has inspired generations of visitors, the facility itself went largely unchanged for decades. The City of Jackson developed plans to reimagine the space with new technology and a more immersive visitor experience, but additional funding was needed to move that vision forward.

The Friends of the Planetarium Fund was established at the Community Foundation for Mississippi to help support that transformation. Gifts to the fund can be used for renovation, enhancements and continued development of the planetarium, including technology such as projection mapping and advanced screen systems.

Through this fund, donors can help preserve an important Jackson institution while creating new opportunities for future generations to explore science, technology and the possibilities beyond our world.
