Friends of the Capital City Arts

For generations, the Arts Center of Mississippi and the Municipal Art Gallery have helped make the arts accessible to people across Jackson and provided local and regional artists with places to create, exhibit and connect with the community.

Located in the heart of downtown Jackson, the Arts Center of Mississippi has served as a shared home for the visual and performing arts since 1978. The center provides gallery, rehearsal and event space for local arts organizations, including Ballet Mississippi, Opera Mississippi, the Mississippi Symphony Orchestra, the International Museum of Muslim Cultures, the International Ballet Competition and Arts for All.

The Arts Center also hosts approximately 16 exhibitions each year, many of which are free and open to the public. Its Spotlight Series gives Mississippi artists an opportunity to exhibit new work each month while contributing to the City of Jackson’s permanent art collection.

The Municipal Art Gallery has its own long history of supporting Mississippi artists. Housed in one of Jackson’s oldest surviving historic structures, the gallery provides a public space for rotating exhibitions of local and regional art. It serves as both a showcase for established artists and a stepping stone for emerging artists, while its permanent collection includes works by notable Mississippi artists such as Karl and Mildred Wolfe, Andrew Bucci, William Hollingsworth and Marie Hull.

The Friends of the Capital City Arts Fund was created to support both of these important cultural spaces. Donations may be used for repairs, renovations and ongoing upkeep, to provide matching funds for grants or to support programming that strengthens Jackson’s artist community.

General donations may support either facility, or donors may designate their gift specifically for the Arts Center of Mississippi or the Municipal Art Gallery.
